Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is commonly recognized as a childhood condition, but it can also manifest in adults or at any stage of life. ADHD can negatively impact an individual’s social relationships, education, and work performance. People with ADHD may experience challenges with concentration, impulsivity, restlessness, and organization throughout their lives. Fortunately, ADHD can be effectively managed through supplements, nutrition, and lifestyle changes.
Recently, more adults have been diagnosed with ADHD through psychological assessments, displaying the following symptoms:
- Hyperactivity: Excessive energy, constantly moving or walking around.
- Inattention: Difficulty maintaining focus.
- Impulsivity: Acting without thinking.
Individuals with ADHD may experience elevated levels of inflammation, which can be managed through supplements, proper nutrition, and lifestyle adjustments. Factors such as leaky gut issues, nutritional imbalances, trauma, hormonal disruptions, and biotoxins can exacerbate ADHD symptoms by increasing neuroinflammation. This neuroinflammation is linked to conditions like stress, anxiety, depression, migraines, autism, sensory processing disorder (SPD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), tic disorders, and insomnia.
Certain supplements might benefit those with ADHD. To support cognitive function and overall brain health, it’s important to consume adequate amounts of high-quality omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids daily. Low levels of zinc, iron, or magnesium may also be improved with appropriate supplementation. Additionally, turmeric, saffron, and PEA can help reduce inflammation.
Research indicates that exposure to mould, heavy metals, and viruses may be linked to decreased attention span and the development of ADHD symptoms.
Functional Testing can be a valuable tool for diagnosing underlying causes, identifying gut dysfunctions, detecting nutrient deficiencies, and assessing inflammation markers.
