Why is it important to choose the right bottle for your baby?
It’s so important when it comes to choosing a bottle for your baby. Plastics can contain harmful chemicals like BPA- Bisphenol A and BPS- Bisphenol S. These chemicals can leak into fluids that are exposed to heat. It’s important to look for BPA-free/BPS-free bottles to ensure your baby’s health.
What’s the difference between materials used?
- Glass: Glass bottles provide a chemical-free solution that’s easy to clean and doesn’t leak. However, they can be heavy and prone to breaking or shattering.
- Plastic: Plastic bottles are popular for being affordable and lightweight. They require thorough sterilization to prevent contamination. Always check for labels indicating BPA-free or BPS-free materials.
- PPSU (Polyphenylsulfone): PPSU bottles are highly heat-resistant, making them ideal for heating and sterilizing. They offer the durability of plastic with added toughness, though they are generally more expensive.
- PP (Polypropylene): PP bottles are less heat-resistant, which can lead to material degradation over time. As a result, they often need more frequent replacement.
- T-ester: A new offering from the Pigeon brand, T-ester bottles have glass-like clarity, making it easy to see through them. They are also compatible with UV sterilizers.
- Silicone: Soft and gentle, silicone bottles are a good option for traveling. However, they are less durable than other materials.
- Stainless Steel: Stainless steel bottles are an eco-friendly choice, known for their durability and chemical-free composition. They tend to be heavier and more expensive.
Here’s a great chart explaining the difference between Pigeon bottles.

Safe habits to keep baby healthy…
- Sterilization is crucial. All parts of the bottle must be thoroughly sterilized before each feeding to ensure your baby’s safety.
- Proper storage is essential. Keep bottles out of direct sunlight and store them in a cool, dry place.
- Cleaning: Wash bottles with hot, soapy water, and rinse them thoroughly. A bottle brush is especially useful for cleaning hard-to-reach areas.
- Inspection and Replacement: Regularly inspect bottles for signs of wear and tear. Discard any bottles showing discolouration, cracks, leaks, or other damage.
Your baby’s health is your top priority!
Ensuring you follow the correct habits of sterilisation and cleaning your baby’s bottles your baby will be healthy and happy. Sometimes it takes time for your baby to get used to bottle feeding and it might take a while before you find the best bottle for them.
