Supporting Women’s Health Through Every Life Stage
A woman’s body undergoes numerous changes throughout different stages of life, from the first menstrual cycle to reproductive health and menopause. Various health products, including traditional herbal remedies and essential nutrients, are available to support overall well-being at each stage.
Bone Health and Ageing
As women age, bone density naturally decreases, particularly during perimenopause and menopause when oestrogen and progesterone levels decline. This can lead to a higher risk of osteoporosis and fractures.
At different life stages, women may also experience stress, anxiety, and depression, which can impact overall health. Symptoms such as low immunity, fatigue, mood swings, and pain are common concerns.
Skin Health
The skin undergoes significant changes throughout life, beginning with teenage acne, eczema, and dry, sensitive skin, eventually leading to concerns about ageing. Several supplements can help address these issues:
- Acne: Zinc supplements, combined with probiotic strains, can support a healthy microbiome and reduce acne severity by limiting bacterial spread.
- Eczema: Nutrients such as vitamin D, vitamin E, zinc, fish oil, probiotics, evening primrose oil, vitamin C, and melatonin may help alleviate eczema symptoms.
- Collagen: Collagen is essential for maintaining firm and elastic skin. As production declines with age, collagen supplements can help improve skin hydration and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)
UTIs are common bacterial infections affecting people of all ages. They are typically treated with a short course of antibiotics, with most women prescribed a three-day regimen. UTIs occur when bacteria, particularly E. coli from the colon, enter the urinary tract through the urethra.
To help prevent UTIs, cranberry supplements are often recommended. Additionally, prebiotics and probiotics support a healthy female microbiome, while staying well-hydrated helps protect against infection.
Bone Density and Osteoporosis
Oestrogen levels play a crucial role in maintaining bone density. As these levels decline during menopause, women can lose up to 10% of their bone density within the first five years, increasing the risk of osteoporosis.
At Choice Pharmacy, we offer exclusive Bone Density Testing for Choice Rewards Members several times a year. This advanced ultrasound bone densitometer scans the heel to assess osteoporosis risk. Depending on the results, we may recommend supplements such as calcium, magnesium, vitamin D, and probiotics to support bone health.
When Should a Woman Get a Bone Density Test?
- Women aged 65 and older
- Women under 65 who have undergone menopause and are at an increased risk due to family history of osteoporotic fractures

Understanding Menopause
Menopause marks the end of a woman’s menstrual cycle and reproductive years. It typically occurs after age 45 but can happen earlier due to surgical procedures such as oophorectomy (removal of both ovaries), which induces “surgical menopause” by abruptly halting hormone production.
Common menopausal symptoms include hot flushes, difficulty sleeping, forgetfulness, irritability, stress, anxiety, and an increased risk of osteoporosis-related fractures.
There are various natural remedies and alternative treatments available to help manage symptoms, including:
Emotional and Mental Health
Women may experience various mental health conditions at any stage of life, including depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). These can impact relationships, work performance, and physical health.
Postnatal depression is another significant concern, affecting many women during or after pregnancy. It can range from mild to severe, requiring support and management.
There are many supplements that may help improve mood and reduce anxiety. By completing this questionnaire, you can gain insight into potential triggers and explore how supplements may be incorporated into your daily routine—even alongside antidepressant medication—without any interference.
