What is Zinc?
Zinc is an essential mineral that plays a critical role in supporting overall health and well-being. It acts as a vital growth factor for cells throughout the body, particularly those that are actively dividing, such as skin, hair, and nail cells. Zinc also supports immune function, wound healing, and the body’s ability to repair and grow. Ensuring adequate zinc levels is crucial for maintaining healthy nails, skin, and overall cellular function.
What is Zinc Deficiency?
Zinc Deficiency occurs when the body doesn’t have enough zinc to meet its needs. Symptoms of zinc deficiency can include delayed growth and development in children, white spots on fingernails, and ridged nails, known as Beau’s lines. Other signs include poor immune function, slow wound healing, learning disabilities, decreased appetite, impaired taste and smell, skin rashes, hair loss, and acne.
If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, consult with our Naturopath to learn more about zinc deficiency, testing, and how to restore your zinc levels for optimal health.
